We’ve been talking about digitalizing your business for a while now — how important it is to make sure you have a consistent presence online. It’s easy if you’re starting from scratch because you can make sure everything is consistent — the same logo, colors, font size or typeface, and similar images. These are the things that give you a consistent brand presence.

In addition, and just as important, are the fundamentals of being online, which are:

  1. Owning your domain: Generally speaking, this will cost $10-$15 per year sometimes even less;
  2. A professional email: you@yourbusiness.com ( .net, .org, etc). Again speaking generally, this will cost $100-$250/year;
  3. Make sure all your social media accounts link back to your domain, and that your domain also directs visitors to your social media streams

If you have an existing business, the concept is similar. The costs might change, but for less than $1,000 your presence online can be established in a meaning full way.

What requires the most money, time, and effort is the creation and maintenance of it all.

Think it through and create plans to maintain it, and to keep it engaging and fresh. One of the things we learned is to keep in simple without having to buy technology that’s beyond you.

You can’t fly a plane when you don’t know how to drive a car. Learn to drive, and don’t buy a Rolls Royce when you start out! As you continue to grow, you can upgrade your cars and technologies.

BEFORE YOU GO

We see our blogs as opportunities for dialogue. Please share your thoughts as comments.

  1. What can you do now to establish your online presence? (If you hire someone, we would love to explore opportunities with our partners to work with you and get you set up)
  2. What are you doing now to keep your pages fresh and engaging?
  3. What other insights have you gained in regards to digitalizing your business?
