There is a “recipe” of sorts for a successful pitch to funders, which has several components. We’ll look at each one over the next few weeks.

Every successful cook knows that the first step in creating a masterpiece is what the French call “mise en place” (essentially, everything in place), the steps of preparing to cook, which we will adapt to preparing a pitch. The first step:

Know Your Recipe — What ingredients are required to pitch your story? What technology or equipment do you need to have in place? How much time do you need to dedicate to getting everything lined up?

Taking the time to answer these questions — making detailed lists as you go — will prepare you for the next step, which is preparing your ingredients.

BEFORE YOU GO

We see our blogs as opportunities for dialogue. Please share your thoughts as comments.

  1. What details or supporting documents will you need?
  2. Is your technology appropriate? What do you need to upgrade?
  3. Map out a first draft of your presentation
