Tell Your Story
Most of the time people see only the surface of what is happening.
Most of the entrepreneur’s I’ve worked with — especially in underserved, underrepresented, under resourced communities — usually hide or try to hide all the challenges they might face. Part of it is culture, if you grow up in an ethnic house in which you don’t share challenges with others no matter what — and part of it is pride, and vulnerability.
I’ve learned that choosing when to share your stories can actually help uplift your work and the results you may see. With time, as you become comfortable in sharing, it becomes easier for you to get your work done.
I didn’t share my stories till 2006, although my struggle began in the 90’s. It doesn’t mean that I’m not struggling today, or that I’m in a better spot today. the struggle just changes or shifts.
My point is that as I watch entrepreneurs grow and share their stories, it becomes clear that supporting them becomes really vital as I learn more about each of them and how they choose to move forward no matter what. As you build your business and story, try to take note of the stories you might have told yourself along the way.
Keep pushing forward with the stories that keep moving you forward.
