Where the Rubber Meets the Road

For the past 30+ years people have told me I “bring reality to the room.” I share that with you because I’ve also headed the other side, which is that I always trust people to reach for the sky or to think bigger.

The truth is, what I’ve been working on over the last 30 years is meeting people where they are.

If you are touching the sky or thinking too high there’s no reality in the process of how you will get there. I ask specific questions to help you understand how to make sure that there is a rubber meeting your road.

In Michigan, Where the Rubber Meets the Road is a phrase used to delineate the reality of what is happening on the ground.

If I feel you just always grinding gears with what is happening on the ground, I ask you to step back and look at the big picture to see how big you can go based on the reality that you have already created on the ground.

There is no rhyme or reason — it’s a balancing act. It’s a recipe that needs to be addressed based on the weather, the day, the number of people attending, is it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, which country, and so on.

While the ingredients are the same, when, where and how you mix it is completely different and this is — from my prospective — entrepreneurship.
